I would like to know if anyone has any understanding of the PSP at a level in which a Battle.net client can be written for it.
PSP already has a web browser and an IRC client thanks to the underground community of developers for it.
Just imagine how cool it would be to have a Battle.net client running in your pocket thanks to PSP's WiFi capabilities.
Any comments or ideas?
I don't know if PSP can run program injected into it (assuming via USB) even if it did it can't be assumed the operating is visual basic.
Well, I know I've seen my bot run on xBox. Can PSP run Java software? :-)
I'd be willing to bet that the best way to get the info you need would be to contact the author(s) of the web browser / IRC client.
While I have not read any technical documents on the PSP, I am fairly confident that it uses a PPC processor, meaning that Visual Basic is definitely not the right development environment, since it is (to my knowledge) designed to compile for intel-based processors.
Comments? Sure. I think it's a stupid idea. That's just me, though.
Sounds interesting.
The IRC "client" was just a hack. It was just a webpage that you could go to to "chat on irc." So if you could produce something like webbot with an interface to chat, then all you need to do is redirect the psp to that webpage instead of the default one it loads up.
Well I was just about to mention what dxoigmn already has about the IRC client, it was only a webpage.
But also, I'm actually planning to make a 'webbot' that uses server resources to connect to battle.net via a servlet. You might run into some trouble trying to find a host that supports servlet technology, especially a free one.
Btw iago, the servlet will be in Java :)
While on the topic of PSP dev, I hear its been very very difficult for the dev community to run any kind of third party software on a PSP with firmware above 1.00.
So it seems to be possible, but only with the web browser?
Obviously VB applications wouldn't run on it seeing how it isn't Windows.

Visual Basic applications do not require Windows to run. (http://www.x86labs.org/~joe/tahcbotlinux.png)
I also doubt the PSP uses *nix . It most likely uses some specially fabricated Operating system with a driver written by them or some company.
If you can get Wine to run on a PSP all the power to you.

Wow, Newby refered to me as a source of information! Wtf?! Yay!
Also, that required Wine: a compatability layer of Windows. I'll experiment with a SysInfo control later to see what it really thinks its running on.
EDIT -If you look at the timestamps, AddChat()'ing was done backwards. Don't ask me why. :(
Wine translate windows API to linux API iirc. So unless the OS is linux then that won't work either.
Maybe java will make a virtual machine for it in the near future. Then it would be easy.

Ok, it's not Windows and it's not a Windows emulator*
WINE stands for "Wine Is Not an Emulator." It's a compatibility layer. So Newby is still right.
Forged: That's totally possible.
What is it with linux people and the * = * is not a(n) *?

I don't know the origin but I believe GNU made it popular to have recursive names. GNU standing for GNU is Not Unix.

It's possible to load Linux onto the PSP; they did it on G4TV.

Why would you infer it has to be VB, it could be any language and of course it probably would work if it there was JVM on it..duh.
What language do you think deception programs in, take a wild guess.

He could've meant in general...I would have anyway. Honestly if you're that soaked into battle.net to have a bot on your PSP..I feel sorry for you...
It would give you something to do at the airport waiting for your plane.

I was not saying I would ever consider writing a bot for PSP, and if I did it's very obvious that Visual Basic wouldnt work on it. Funny that you assume I figured we could get Windows running on it.

I believe that Wine also runs on Mac.
Anyway, if they were smart they'd use Linux. Tons of hardware appliances (firewalls, routers, IDS/IPS, etc.) use proprietary (customized) versions of Linux. Why? It's free to use, and free to buy. Why re-invent the wheel when you have a perfectly good base operating system. So who knows? It could be Linux :)

There's an oxymoron if I've ever seen one.

If you would never consider writing a bot for it, then why ask about it? Are you asking for someone else? Tell them to come out of hiding and ask directly, it's really not nice to abuse your social power in such a way.

What are you talking about? I just thought it would be cool to have a Bnet client on PSP so I started this thread. I never said I MYSELF WAS GOING TO FIND A WAY TO DO IT, so hush.
I've had some time to fiddle around with the PSP although i dont have my own :'( sorry i dont have a money tree. Anyways the PSP has an autoupdater and a configuration settings for a socks4 proxy so im thinking put a wireless network adapter in your computer and setup internet connection sharing and packetlog yourself to see what ports the psp connects through then write a bullshit proxy server todo 'something' to the operating system that would allow the transfer of a battle.net bot or do this somewhere to a program where you could implement one 'text application or something' just a general overview about a method that could be used :)
Then why even ask? You know, other than annoying people into answering something your most likely never going to do? You don't show the initiative to do something then you wonder why I make an assumption and get mad at others? Joke.
when i get a psp i will definitly find a way todo it :)
Run a JavaOp somewhere and use the Wipeout browser to use it. BAM!! You (sort of) have a bot on the PSP.

You totally missed the point of this thread, kid. I wanted to know if anyone out there has the skills to do it, and if so, I was curious to know how it could be done. That was it.
Let's see..you make a thread, ask how to do something, people answer you, you give them a rude response about how you will never do this. You still don't think you're out of line?

You're the one who is "out of line". I didn't give any "rude response" on this thread to anyone who was answering my questions. I think what you deem as a "rude response" is only your biased view of my posts.
It's based on common sense, whatever I don't want this trashed .

I second.
I had hoped the regulars would've learned to ignore (meaning: not respond to) Deception by now, but this is getting ridiculous. Get back on topic, let the thread die, or it'll be locked. Those're your choices.
I opt for locking.

Yeah. If you can't beat 'em, ignore 'em.
Ignore the problem and it will go away, right Kp?

Exactly. If you keep talking and nobody responds, you're spamming and we ban you. For that matter, if you keep causing trouble you'll probably get banned even if people do keep responding. :)
