I don't know the origin but I believe GNU made it popular to have recursive names. GNU standing for GNU is Not Unix.

I also doubt the PSP uses *nix . It most likely uses some specially fabricated Operating system with a driver written by them or some company.

If you can get Wine to run on a PSP all the power to you.
It's possible to load Linux onto the PSP; they did it on G4TV.

I don't know if PSP can run program injected into it (assuming via USB) even if it did it can't be assumed the operating is visual basic.

Why would you infer it has to be VB, it could be any language and of course it probably would work if it there was JVM on it..duh.

What language do you think deception programs in, take a wild guess.

He could've meant in general...I would have anyway. Honestly if you're that soaked into battle.net to have a bot on your PSP..I feel sorry for you...

I was not saying I would ever consider writing a bot for PSP, and if I did it's very obvious that Visual Basic wouldnt work on it. Funny that you assume I figured we could get Windows running on it.

Wine translate windows API to linux API iirc. So unless the OS is linux then that won't work either.

I believe that Wine also runs on Mac.

Anyway, if they were smart they'd use Linux.  Tons of hardware appliances (firewalls, routers, IDS/IPS, etc.) use proprietary (customized) versions of Linux.  Why? It's free to use, and free to buy.  Why re-invent the wheel when you have a perfectly good base operating system.  So who knows? It could be Linux :)
This'll make an interesting test for broken AV:

There's an oxymoron if I've ever seen one.

Quote from: Deception on May 17, 2005, 02:08 AMI would like to know if anyone has any understanding of the PSP at a level in which a Battle.net client can be written for it.
...
Just imagine how cool it would be to have a Battle.net client running in your pocket thanks to PSP's WiFi capabilities.

Any comments or ideas?

If you would never consider writing a bot for it, then why ask about it? Are you asking for someone else? Tell them to come out of hiding and ask directly, it's really not nice to abuse your social power in such a way.

What are you talking about? I just thought it would be cool to have a Bnet client on PSP so I started this thread. I never said I MYSELF WAS GOING TO FIND A WAY TO DO IT, so hush.

I've had some time to fiddle around with the PSP although i dont have my own :'( sorry i dont have a money tree. Anyways the PSP has an autoupdater and a configuration settings for a socks4 proxy so im thinking put a wireless network adapter in your computer and setup internet connection sharing and packetlog yourself to see what ports the psp connects through then write a bullshit proxy server todo 'something' to the operating system that would allow the transfer of a battle.net bot or do this somewhere to a program where you could implement one 'text application or something' just a general overview about a method that could be used :)

Warrior

Then why even ask? You know, other than annoying people into answering something your most likely never going to do?  You don't show the initiative to do something then you wonder why  I make an  assumption and get mad at others? Joke.

Run a JavaOp somewhere and use the Wipeout browser to use it.  BAM!! You (sort of) have a bot on the PSP.
