I am glad somebody took action and I support them 100%. Even if they where doing criminal acitivity it gives the police no right to put the pictures all over sites so other people can see it such as family members and friends.

What could the kids possibly be suing for?...defamation?

Its EXACTLY the same as posting a "wanted" poster

As CrAz3D said, it's basically a wanted poster. It said they were guilty of trespassing (which, according to TehUser, is a class 5 felony if you willingly do it (source: IRC)) and probably marijuana smoking, though that'll be harder to prove.

Basically: threaten 'em with a felony, they'll rat out their friends.

Posession of paraphenilia is usually worse than possession of the drug, depending on how much of the drug you have...at least thats how it goes in NM

From what I've heard and seen on the news, the issue is one of civil liberties, specifically the right to assemble peaceably.  The university closed the field -- public property -- in advance in order to prevent a peaceful gathering from occuring.

The second claim I've heard is that by not arresting people as soon as they set foot on the field, the university gave "implied consent" that such a gathering was ok.

As a funny aside, I watched the FoxNewsVersiontm of the incident, where the mentioned that the participents "claimed that their civil liberties had been violated!" but then immediately cut to an interview which totally mentioned nothing about said violation.  In fact, that was the only line that mentioned the actual issue at all. ;)

Edit: How 'bout fix the link so that the tables aren't all screwed up?

CrAz3D

I believe you have to apply for permits for large gathers, for safety measures & what not.

"implied consent"?...that seems like a bullshit excuse.  Just because there are speed limits posted without a cop at each one doesn't mean they still don't apply
