Is anyone here from/been to Chicago? I'm planning on having a bit of a road trip sometime in the near future and I want to get the best damn pizza I can get while I'm there. Any suggestions?
Round Table Pizza - All Meat Marvel. Its sooo money.
Unos (http://www.unos.com/), best pizza ever, period.
Geno's pizza downtown. "World's Best Pizza". Get deep dish sausage. Pizza, sausage, two of Chicago's finest come together. You cannot go wrong.
I used to go to Chicago on weekends and buy a pizza, enjoy a couple slices there and bring the rest home for the fridge in my barracks. Even days later, Geno's pizza is incredible.

Uh, that's a chain..you can get it all over the country (or east coast at least, I don't know.) Why would you go to a city known for its pizza, to get food from a restraunt that isn't even locally owned.
That's like going to Italy and then going to Olive Garden or something.

Here in LA there is a chain called Numero Uno, do you know if it's related to Uno's?
Cool I think I'll raid Geno's and eat some of it while on the road haha :) thanks
Grok, I can't find any information about Geno's, could you please point me in the right direction? Perhaps even an address? :P

Yeah I live in LA and have tried Numero Uno and it sucks. I though Uno was the same as Numero Uno but it is nothing like Numero Uno, it doesn't even compare. And yes it is a chain, but they don't have it out in the west coast much so I rarely get to eat it (unless I drive down to San Diego or when I'm in Phoenix). Since you'll be in chicago, go to the original Pizzeria Uno.
There aren't any Unos in Philly, but Soho (http://www.liquid-server.org/images/internship/lunch.jpg) is awesome (it's a Philly place). If you're lucky there's one in Chicago.
Looks like they moved. Too bad. But I havent been there in 15 years so ... here's the new location

Who wants to meet up in Chicago and have some pizza?! I'm not far from there at all!
If you're paying, haha...
Thanks again Grok, I was thinking it might be Gino's because that's what kept popping up on google.
dxoigmn, I'll probably check out a Pizzeria Uno sometime next week since it's in SD.
If you can get to Cicero, go to Al's Pizza (http://www.alsrestaurant.com/index-3.html) -- great food. :)
When you're in Chicago, also go to Portillo's (http://www.portillos.com) for the best hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches in the world! :D

Where in SD will you be?
Where the pizza is :P
Myndfyre, ever been to LA? If so, have you ever been to Pink's in Hollywood?
McDonalds is awesome in Chicago - they put extra 1000 island on the big macs, and if you're lucky someone will urinate in your fries to spice it up.

Mmm, urine-covered fries. I can taste it now.

Taking my thread back now --
I was wondering if anyone has actually done any road trips... This will be my first and I wanted to know if there are any tips you might have.
Especially regarding hotels. i.e. do you just find them as you go along, or do you actually reserve a room ahead of time?
I would suggest you find them as you go along. Also, be sure to stay at a hotel that you recognize and not some random place, "Larry's Cow Barn Hotel".
I don't book ahead, because it will limit the amount of driving I can (could've) done in that day; Unless that hotel is reserved at your final destination.
You also have to take in account of what kind of hotel you're planning on staying at. The higher class ones are obviously more expenisve, but also sometimes require advanced booking.

Alternatively, you could sleep in the car and have sink-baths at public restrooms. It's not too bad, and you save money that could be directed elsewhere. This is what I would do.
Or you could do what stewie did and take pills that a random trucker gave you.

Haha.. that was awesome.
I crossed countried Canada. Really nice, some parts(British Columbia) have huge ass moutains and snow at the top. You can even see holes in the rock where miners used to go dig, way the fuck up there. Probably took them 2-4 hours just to get to it. Also saw some glaciers, alot of flat land, alot of up and down land(hills). I saw all the great lakes, looks like a damn mini ocean. Alot of farms, places.
Ontario and Quebec was nuts. The girls down there are damn hot, and its so humid down there, they walk around in bikinis and shit. And beer is cheap, and you can have anything you want at 18.
What I plan to do is go through the southern half of the US this time and then the northern half next time along with canada.
You should try walking across America. It's one of the goals for this lifetime of mine, and it's primarily to build character.
Terry Fox basically ran across Canada. I am sure others could walk it too.
Tom (http://www.walkingtom.com/) made a website about his journey across the United States. It really makes me want to do it.

Anyone know of any nice areas in the Chicago area (i.e. suburbs)? I'm not looking for a country club or a five star hotel or anything. I'll just be getting some pizza and passing through. So all I really need is a nice quiet area that isn't very close to the airport.

Pat's Pizza on Seminary and Lincoln ave (i think) close to downtown chicago makes the BEST thin crust pizza ever.
Also nice area, lakeview is nice if you go down to the beach, lots of gay guys and gay bars so watch out for that one if you see a half-naked male coming up on you, feel free to run away. If you go to west chicago, (about 6000 west around central ave and fullerton ave) that's the Polish/Czech hood, LOTS of awesome food places so check that out. there is a restaurant called Operetta (czech food) if you go down west fullerton around central ave, just keep going it will be on your left side. good food ;)

X2, thats about the only good pizza place here (in alaska).
Hmm so right now I'm in Lexington, NE and I'll be making a dash for Lombard, IL or Oak Brook, IL in a few hours. Hopefully I'll have some Pizza for dinner!

Nice! One other place in IL that I could recommend that's about a 40 minute drive from Lombard (IIRC) is Cascani's pizza in Countryside - go with deep dish (it's enough to feed a small army).
So Chicago was badass.. I've never had a pizza fill me up with only one slice. There's no pizza out there like it as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, after Chicago I went to Rhode Island then headed down to Miami. The worst part about that leg of my journey was the stench of New Jersey. That seriously took the cake, especially since it was a toll road... why the hell would anyone agree to pay for that (knowingly)?!
Right now I'm on my way home to LA. I'm currently in Weatherford, TX.
I've never been to Chicago so I can't compare. But when I went to Rome the pizza there was the best I've had by far.

You only complain about the smell? When the fuck did you drive through to avoid the damned TRAFFIC?
