Where can we play chess?
If there are several people here who play chess, I'd be interested in a tournament ;).
...We could use Yahoo, unless someone has another suggestion?
We could make our own chess game?
Rule: I don't like Yahoo.
rabbit: we can also re-invent the wheel!
Bah, I did that (with square legos) when I was 5.
I'm in chess club.
Sort of.
Invert: Why don't you like yahoo? Can you suggest a better idea?
Oooh, chess tournament!! I'm in. (I am bad. Really bad. But that's okay.)
Chess is fun, even though I always lose just watching your strategies unfold. Great game to play during biology when theres a sub and you're bored :). Gogo pocket chess.
pogo.com?
I'm in. Even though i'm bad :P
I'll join in.
Then it's settled, let's have a tournament!
So far we have :
Me
Falcon[anti-yL]
Qwertymonster
Hitmen
Dynobird (probably)
Please confirm
Rabbit?
Warrior?
Invert?
Hismajesty?
And there will probably be more...
So now we need to decide on what service we're using.
Whatever we do use, I suggest using a program that logs all moves made, (and perhaps has an option to replay the logs for us so we don't have to set it up ourselves). Maybe an applet for putting up a site with stats/game replays.
Once we have enough people, I can organize the matches (will select opponents using a random number algorithm).
I don't have a problem using yahoo.
I'm in, I will be using yahoo
Im game, And Does Yahoo allow for spectators? If so I got fraps.
~-~(HDX)~-~
I'll use yahoo too, and yes, it allows spec.
I'm in. Btw I suck.
Confirming.
IMMMM IN!
AIM: Vesalius X
Coordinate :-P
Ok, yahoo it is. There are others I've talked to who will also be involved.
In a day or so, I'll put up a tournament site on valhallalegends.com/rule,
with a list of those involved, and the pairings for the first round.
I'm not good, have an easy level. :)
Wow I didn't know so many people here played chess! Of course I'm in! :)
Yes, I like yahoo because that way we can see eachother in the game rooms and talk to eachother easier. We can enter an empty game room (there are always a few game rooms that have only like a few people in it) and play there. Other chess servers aren't as good at allowing users to talk to eachother and see eachother in the game room.
I'll play.
If it's possible, can you make the tournament in the afternoon? I have Drivers Ed from 9:30 am - 1 pm for the next two weeks. =(
Sorry about the delay on the website. I've been really busy with work. I'll try to have it up soon.
You won't need to worry about a "specific time" as Dynobird has suggested -- I will post the players, and the pairings for round 1, then it is up to those paired against
one another to discuss a time they can play that is within a given timeframe. The time they decide on should be sent to me (via PM),and I'll make it available on the site incase anyone else wants to watch.
Since there are probably some fairly large differences in skill level amongst us, I will then have a 'winners' and 'losers' bracket from the first round, where people will play against one another in their own bracket. That doesn't mean if you lose the first game you can't win the tournament :P. Eventually the two highest rated players will face off in the final.
Also it will be possible to switch brackets. I'll explain this in more detail on the site later.
I'm in, I have been playing for 7(and a half) years.

I bet money on teh if he plays :p

We are talking about human v.s. human
Nobody every said that!
And computers aren't better. When both are playing at their best (in a reasonably timed game), the human will win (assuming a top rated human player).

QuoteThe Soviet pre-eminence in chess can be traced to the average Russian's readiness to brood obsessively over anything, even the arrangement of some pieces of wood. Indeed, the Russians' predisposition for quiet reflection followed by sudden preventive action explains why they led the field for many years in both chess and ax murders. It is well known that as early as 1970, the U.S.S.R., aware of what a defeat at Reykjavik would do to national prestige, implemented a vigorous program of preparation and incentive. Every day for an entire year, a team of psychologists, chess analysts and coaches met with the top three Russian grand masters and threatened them with a pointy stick. That these tactics proved fruitless is now a part of chess history and a further testament to the American way, which provides that if you want something badly enough, you can always go to Iceland and get it from the Russians.

I've never been able to beat a computer, I usually get a draw (King vs King).
BUMP!
Um yeah.... There don't seem to be many people reporting the scores from their games so far. HisMajesty and Topaz played, but I haven't heard from anyone else yet.
I played FoFo, I won.

The e-mail the report for moves didnt work for me :/ so a SS is all I could get.
I didnt get my 4 move checkmate... Cuz I got my King and my Queen mixed up :P
(For those of you who can't tell, My Rook and Queen got his King in checkmate, Im black FoFo's white)
~-~(HDX)~-~
Wish I could pull a move like that.
Ugh..it was so stupid of me. I woulda had him in 2 or 3 more moves if he hadn't gotten me :\
I last contacted Falcon several days ago and have heard nothing from him since.
I never see you on aim -_-

First of all, that's not checkmate. Yahoo notifies you if someone is in checkmate. In this case, white could take black's queen with his bishop, thus removing the check. I don't know why you guys decided this game was over.

Note that if he took your queen with his bishop, the placement of your rook doesn't mean a thing?
Indeed.
Bishop takes Queen, Rook optionally takes Bishop. If that happens then the King would take the Rook.
When there is checkmate, Yahoo tells you.

NOT a checkmate and is only a check.
If I was white I would win this game easy.
In this case both of you deserve a loss for being stupid.
I couldn't move my pieces, it wasn't my fault!

You only had one move, the game doesn't let you move pieces that won't get you out of check.
It was your fault.
I clicked every single one of my pieces. None of them were moveable.
Click harder.
Hurm, Ok I didnt see that move.
FoFo I 'shalenge you to a rematch!

I played a flawless game other then I moved my queen 1 square to short, or the game would have been over much sooner.
It would probably be better if we didn't post unfinished games.
