It's mostly about moderating. Just prune any thread that is going off-topic, moving the offending posts to a new thread. If you want to keep a forum clean, you can. Priorities...

Interesting how all of these posts occured in the last 30 minutes or so...except for the first which was about an hour.  We should have these instant messaging threads more often!
Don't act so innocent. You contribute to these types of threads all the time. It seems every post on the C/C++ forum gets your treatment. It almost always turns into an argument/discussion with other members, and the original post gets lost in all the chatter. If you don't have anything to contribute, or if you don't know the answer don't post.

Exactly, I was stuck on some coding so I asked for help. Then what do I get? Joker starting to say "Oh if you can't solve something so simple as this, then you shouldn't be learning this langauge" blah blah. The whole thread turned into an argument!

Interesting note... Maybe vL could host a chat room for people to talk in, which might ease up on the useless/flame posts?

but then we wouldnt be posting on the forum!!!

You raise a really good point Eibro.  On my thread regarding the semantic differences between typedefs and the use of #defines to define types, and implicit/explicit casting, you (Mephisto) made an entirely irrelevant post rambling on about the preprocessor.  It should have been blindingly obvious that I understood what the preprocessor did, because otherwise I wouldn't have had that problem.  In fact, I believe I said in the original post that I wanted to understand the semantic differences between the two.

When you finally posted something worthwhile, three other people already had.  But you contributes four posts before you finally got to the point.  And even then, the crux of the question was not there.

It's annoying at best.
QuoteEvery generation of humans believed it had all the answers it needed, except for a few mysteries they assumed would be solved at any moment. And they all believed their ancestors were simplistic and deluded. What are the odds that you are the first generation of humans who will understand reality?

After 3 years, it's on the horizon.  The new JinxBot, and BN#, the managed Battle.net Client library.
