Embassies and the capitalism-communism paradox

Two days ago I walked with a friend on the streets of Herzeliya Pituach, which is a place in the city of Herzeliya where very, very, very, very, very, very rich people live. We saw huge houses, fancy cars, and 7 embassy residences: Czech, Columbia, Venezuela, Thailand, India, (a house which had a flag but we couldn't recognize it and there wasn't a plaque), and China. The plaque on the Chinese ambassador's gate said "The People's Republic of China".

This led to a paradox: How can the Chinese ambassador, who comes from a communist country, be such a capitalist here? It just makes no sense. Comments?

It makes perfect sense: China is no longer communist. They say they are, but it's token communism really. Ever since we gave back Hong Kong they've been industrialising and manufacturing and making lots of money from exporting those bits of crap you buy in joke shops for $0.99.

Besides, a 'real' communist state where everyone really did have the same standards of living never did exist, IMHO. Feel free to correct me though.

Well, they're all equal, but some are more equal than others....

-Orwell.  If you don't cite your quotes, it's plagerism.

Communism is a great idea!  Let's make everybody equal, and leave it up to the people in charge to make sure everybody's equal.  Of course, because people are naturally greedy, the whole plan goes to hell.

If I cite my quotes, you don't get to think about where you heard that before.

That one's too obvious if you've read the book :P

Yes. Others should recognize it too though, since it's the theme of a famous book. I tried it in channel or in a chat recently, and it wasn't recognized, so I figured it needs repeating.
