I'm considering setting up a high quality video camera behind the backseat of my car or if possible, from the ceiling between the two front seats where the ceiling light is (or more likely the dashboard). It's something I want to do just for fun and incase I ever catch anything interesting on the road (I'm on a number of different highways often), I'll have it on camera. There's a lot of video cameras out there, and I know where to look to find them. I'm curious if anyone else has done this or knows of a particular camera that would recommend for the job?

Mystical

well I have a backup camera on my tahoe because my wall of subwoofers, but that you could get at any custom car audio place for fairly cheap, as for a video camera that'd record maybe and save the video its recording, I'm not quite sure, I hear there's a new system out, but its like 1300 its supposly like a computer built into your dash that'll do all that kind of stuff.

anyways, my useless post. =)

Well, that's probably what I'll be doing. I'll be looking for one with WiFi so when I pull in my driveway I can upload it to a computer in my room. Just figured I'd see if anyone here has already done this or knew of a better camera for the job.

Well, if you're wanting something capable of recording lots of footage I'd do some research into what police cars use.

Hmm, that didn't cross my mind actually. Thanks, I'll look into that.

Or if you want to be really elite you could like buy one of those wireless network cards from Verizon, or somebody, and have the camera stream to the internet all the time! Or just record to some device at your house, or somewhere, while you're driving.

This way if a die in a car accident, the data is safe.

I was thinking more along the lines of highway pirates. This way if you get high jacked by highway pirates they can't steal your dataz and sell them on the black market.

Be weary of highway pirates...

I'll be very weary.

Anyway, I've ordered this: http://www.sgmotoring.com/3sirius/siriuseye.html

I'll keep this thread posted with my review of it whenever it arrives. It's coming from Singapore, so it said around 6-12 days for shipping.

Update: It's not really $99. I've been awake forever and am too tired to do the math, but it's actual 99 in Singapore dollars (or whatever), which is less in USD.

Update:"Order processing, handling and packing takes about 3 days after payment is received.

Usually it take about 10 - 20 days for the item to be shipped to major destinations after dispatch."

It'll be a while before I receive this thing..

I've tested out the camera I mentioned above. It works exceptionally well, especially for the price it is. It's not too great at night unless you're in a very lighted area. Otherwise, the video quality is pretty good and it's pretty fun to mess around with.

upload some videos..I'm slightly interested.

I'm at work right now. I get out at 5 pm EST. I'll upload a short video of when i left my house and drove down a few streets. Within a few days, I'll get on the highway in the afternoon and record it then upload it here.

This is me driving at night: http://realityripple.com/Uploads/Pub/SUNP0006.AVI

This is me leaving work today, after about 3 minutes in I'll be on the highway. Everything looks slower on camera, at a few points there are no cars in the way and I'm going about 100mph -- it looks more like 60mph.
