cs 1.6 beta and steam

Has anybody checked either of these programs out?  I don't think you can download cs 1.6 beta anymore, but we, DkR, have it on our server.  At any rate, steam seems to be a very buggy and memory inensive peice of software.  My brother was telling me while it was idle it took up as much a 100MB of memory.  He posted on their forums that there was a possible memory leak and they deleted his post.  If anybody is interested give me a pm on these forums and I'll tell you where you can get cs 1.6 beta.

Yeah, Steam's pretty crappy. I haven't played 2.0, it was the version right before that, but I doubt it's gotten much better.

So you have a beta that's playable without steam? That'd be cool =)
