Valhalla Legends News

    * May 7, 2000 - Security chat with Islanti - This occurred 6 days ago, but click to read where Blizzard's top network guy wants us to concentrate our efforts.  He offers more than subtle hints in this dialogue.
    * May 7, 2000 - By now you know I have removed the N privilege from everyone except leaders and Adron.  This is how it was before the failed experiment.  [vL] members removing other [vL] members names from safelist then banning them was the cause of the removal of this extra privilege.  This really sucks for us because now instead of all of [vL] being able to add/modify names, now the leaders have to do the work.
    * April 28, 2000 - Many of you may have noticed the bots are banning a lot more people.  Here's the scoop.  The server which was hosting the bots suddenly stopped hosting them.  We have been unable to get to the server to retrieve the config file containing the access lists.  The bots themselves were moved to another server, which is why you see them in the channel.  Slowly we are rebuilding the access list.  Until we are able to hook up with you and get your name added properly, the bots can ban you.  This is simply a technical snafu and nothing personal directed at you.  If you want to cry about this then perhaps you're just not the type of warrior that Odin would respect and honor.
    * April 28, 2000 - More on the bot subject.  Until the upcoming battle.net patches which will remove the account number, as well as required Diablo shareware to use a password, the [vL] bots control access to the channel by your battle.net client ID, a.k.a. account number.  Some statements about this are needed.
         1. If you provide us a unique account number, you will have full access to the bots under that number.
         2. If you change your account number, the bots will not know you.
         3. We're trying something where all [vL] members will have not only operator control of the bots, but the ability to add/remove/modify names on the list.  It will remain this way until there is a reason to change it.  Hint:  Don't give us a reason to change it.
         4. When adding names to the bots, -1 means match all account numbers.  0 means match for a chat bot.  Any other number will match against the client ID of a binary client, or match against the IP of a text gateway client.
         5. Guidelines for adding names:
o Do not add -1 for privileges other than F, B, or Z.
o If you -1 a name with S, be sure you whisper it to the [vL] so no one else sees it.
o If you -1 a name with any other privilege, it will be deleted when found.
o Do not use wildcards on names for any -1 or 0 account for other than F, B, or Z.  If you add "0 [vL]Name* NOS" then anyone who creates a name beginning with [vL]Name and logs on a chat bot will have full access.
         6. Some of you are having fun with ".ban *" which will ban everyone in the channel who is not safelisted "S" on access list.  Cute, but each of us do have friends who like to visit.  We won't tell you not to do it, as you all are [vL] because you are above needing a channel nanny, but a little restraint might earn you a little respect, don't you think?  It's not the punk who uses a gun who is respected, but the soldier who doesn't need to use it.
         7. Now that the web site is working correctly with Visual InterDev, a voting booth will be going up soon.  The plan is for voting to work like this:
o Candidates will go to web page to apply for membership and a test.
o Any [vL] will be able to review the applications once submitted.
o Any [vL] leader will be able to reject applications and enter a reason for the rejection.
o Any [vL] leader will be able to accept the application, after which time he should interview the candidate and pass judgment.  He marks his judgment on the candidates application under leader remarks.
o After three of the four [vL] leaders have approved the candidate on the web page, that candidate's voting becomes immediately open.
o Voting remains open until one of two things have happened.
                     1. At least 2/3 the members vote yes - candidate is approved.
                     2. At least 1/3 the members vote no - candidate is rejected.
o This pretty much means if people don't visit the web page and look at new candidates, they'll never have enough votes to be approved or rejected.  The 2/3 and 1/3 go against the entire roster of [vL].
o The responsibility is yours to check the page to see if people are being voted on.  If you don't get to vote on someone, it will be because you either didn't check the page, or because they accumulated enough votes to be approved or rejected and your vote wouldn't have changed the outcome.
o The votes and the count will be visible to all [vL] throughout the process.  If you're the type who will be pressured into voting other than how you feel, then maybe you're not really a Valhalla Legend?

Islanti == AdrianL?

AFAIK

warz

I remember reading it and not really seeing anything too interesting. Then again, that was, if spht is correct, 6 years ago.
