I'm missing a wireless card, but I'm going to get my house appraised for wired networking installation by a guy I know.

(I took out the speakers and fixed a math error, and added in four fans).
(Added the TV tuner USB device - I use Media Center :))

Looks like a damned impressive system! I'm jealous :D

I only have two thoughts: You won't need the memory heatsinks (your HyperX sticks already have heatsinks on them), and you won't need the Arctic Silver compound because your processor is a Retail-boxed one, which comes with a heatsink/fan combo ready to go out of the box, unless you want to scrape Intel's existing thermal grease off before applying the Arctic Silver.

Yeah, but 0.267GHz isn't worth $185.

I don't know if I'm getting it yet, it's a lot of money.  Things like the dual widescreen LCDs and the dual GeForce 7950s are incredibly expensive.

Thanks for the note on the memory heatsinks (I thought they said they didn't come with), but what about the thermal compound?  I'm using liquid cooling - don't I replace the standard heat sink with the liquid cooling's heat sink?  (I don't know - I've never used it).

Sounds like an ok processor by the specs anyway, I wouldent buy one yet though atleast untill its been around for a little bit.

The Core 2 Extremes are sexy, but I don't need that kind of speed.  What I really wanted was the FSB, and this one has the 1066MHz FSB.

Oh -- I didn't notice you were going liquid cooling! In that case, your liquid cooling kit actually has a RAMsink included -- and case fans aren't really all that important. As for the thermal compound, I suppose the best thing to do would be to check with Gigabyte to see whether or not it's needed. I don't know how the stuff behaves underwater, if it's useful or effective at all..

I still want the case fans for my GPUs, no?  2 dual-core graphics cards - that's pretty heavy man.

I don't really know anything about hardware, but would it be worth the money to get a small harddrive at 15,000 RPM for the OS and games and stuff you use frequently?

Arta

I didn't notice a RAID controller there? I assume there's one built into your motherboard. If that's the case, you *really* don't want to run your OS from it. Cheap raid controllers generally borrow CPU cycles to do the parity calculations, and it's a real performance killer. I have a cheap card in my server, and when you're copying data onto it, the performance degrades so badly that you can't even listen to music off it -- it skips. So, I agree with Frozen -- get a nice fast hdd for your OS and use the raid for data, or an expensive raid controller and use the raid for both.

I know RAID 5 is supposed to offer better disk performance than a single drive, but that performance gain is totally wiped out if you skimp on the controller.

topaz

You don't *really* need a 15k drive, one with perpendicular recording can offer performance close to it. The high RPM drives -- like my raptor -- are really loud, so if you still want to buy one, make sure you purchase a drive muffler (like this one).
