Has anyone played this game or heard of it?
It came out in 2003, I was a big Wing Commander: Privateer fan back-in-the-day so when Freelancer came out I bought it since it was made by the same people. It comes with a server where you can run it and have a persistent universe with 128 players playing at the same time (that is if you have the CPU and the bandwidth power to handle it). I was thinking of getting back into it and maybe running a server. I lost my original copy so I have to buy the game again which is only $16 now (on Amazon.com).

Here is a link to the Freelancer website:

It's like an MMO mixed with a space combat sim. I think it owns, if anyone else is interested, let me know.

That looks pretty cool.

I'm down for that.

There is a demo version on the Freelancer website, try it.

I remember my friend telling me about this game the day it came out? Heh. I tried it at his house and didn't like it.

But then again, I don't like things based in space.

Maybe I'll give it another try...

I've played it. The gameplay is nothing special, then there is an open-ended gameplay where you can't do anything. 5/10.

Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about. The game play is fun, the storyline is very captivating and when you are done with that you can do anything you want, you can do more missions, you can trade, you can pillage and loot merchant ships, you can go find hidden outposts and bases, you can fight pirates, what ever you want. If you are playing on a server you can do co-op missions or kill each other in PvP.

If you want to read the reviews for this game and the ratings click the link below. They are a lot more credible than this dummies "5/10" review.

I played Freelancer quite a bit back when. It was a really fun game. I got good performance when I first played it. That was when I had a GeForce 4 MX, so I don't think the requirements are very high.

Falcon[anti-yL]

I've played this for 2 days now and I like it :). I want to ask, if you set up a server and I play on it, would I have to start at the beginning with just the basic fighter like in the single player mode?

I am not sure, I think I can just transfer your game info to the server, I don't see why I could not do that. But if not it's not a big deal if we all start at the same time. That makes it fun playing togather.

Falcon[anti-yL]

Thats a good idea, I'll play on your server when you make one, keep me updated :)

Last time I played online, you had to start over. The server admin can change the amount of money you start with, your starting ship, and other stuff.

Topaz

It looks fun, but it's not available in any nearby electronic stores :(
