The solution is to start abiding by the laws, mow a yard or two per month, and pay up.

Or to download the latest server from http://www.wddg-online.com as they are typically updated to the newest WoW version.  No sense in paying a monthly fee for an awful game.

It's not so bad if you pay for it... I can imagine the user-created servers sucking though. You get what you pay for ;)

I played on the battle.net servers and unsurprisingly, it sucked just as much as playing on a user-created server.  (Battle.net was actually worse if you count the lag issues in highly populated areas and the server downtimes.)  Why waste the money for the same experience?

WoW isn't on Battle.net servers :)

The entire time that I played it on blizzards servers, I found This series (missing diplomat) of quests to be the best that they had to offer.

I guess there is an up and a down side to the free servers though. you can play passed level 60 up to 255, you can make your own quests, weapons, armor, etc.. But they are still way to buggy, not all the spells work, dont think any of the talents are working yet either.. so you get what you pay for lol.

Lag issues aren't that bad if you're on a reasonable connection.. Any game is bound to lag a bit when you have a huge community meeting in the same place. Yet having that many players makes it more fun. I'm sure you won't lag if you're on a server with 10 players, but how fun is that? Who will you be bidding against in the AH? :P

Adding more levels means nothing if you're not on a Blizzard server... You could call level 60 "level 100000000" if you wanted to, but would you get more content? If the talents aren't working, I don't see how playing it could be very interesting at all - since talents is the way you customize your character. What would D2 be without skills?

You're missing out on one of the funnest (funnest?) points of the game if you isolate yourself on your own server.  It's not worth playing if you can't play it with other people.

That isn't why I'd want to write my own server.  I enjoy the game, but not enough to play it constantly.  I might play it 8 hours a month.  I don't want to have to pay $15 for that, and I certainly don't think I should.

After 3 years, it's on the horizon.  The new JinxBot, and BN#, the managed Battle.net Client library.
