Deception

I received this packet on my client. My account is WCG player account.

What I want to know is, what is this packet for?

I don't have the official client installed so I can't see what it's for.

BNCS Packet ID: 0x4E

0000:  FF 4E 3E 00 01 03 57 6F 72 6C 64 20 43 79 62 65   ÿN>.World Cybe
0010:  72 20 47 61 6D 65 73 20 28 4D 65 72 63 75 72 79   r Games (Mercury
0020:  29 00 00 10 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 01 01 00 02 02   )........
0030:  00 00 00 00 01 05 00 00 00 00 32 00 00 00         ........2.....

Any ideas?

Ringo

Are you sure that came fom the BNCS protocol?

What gives u the idea this is a 0x4E BNCS packet?

UserLoser.

This is on W3XP?  If not, I don't recall any handling for that message in Starcraft's Battle.snp

Deception

I was unclear with the message.

It was:
[00:04:31] BNCS Received Unknown
0000:  FF 4E 3E 00 01 03 57 6F 72 6C 64 20 43 79 62 65   ÿN>.World Cybe
0010:  72 20 47 61 6D 65 73 20 28 4D 65 72 63 75 72 79   r Games (Mercury
0020:  29 00 00 10 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 01 01 00 02 02   )........
0030:  00 00 00 00 01 05 00 00 00 00 32 00 00 00         ........2.....

This is definitively a BNCS packet, as I previously stated.

It was on StarCraft Brood War.
The account is receiving it because it is a WCG player.

Think the proceeding values have somthing in common?
(The UDP Packets values very on game type)

[edit]
Hmm, seems as the packet has a channel name in it and is followed by pritty standerd game values, would suggest that is what it is, an infomation packet based on the type of games the client can play.

Would that be Mercury games?

The differnace is, that BNCS is telling you these values and not the game host.

After further research, I can conclude that the string from the packet, "World Cyber Games (Murcury)" is a new Game Type for Brood War users to pick when they create or join a game.

It isn't a channel name. The channel that WCG players join automatically when they logon is WCG Mercury 1. As far as I know, WCG is only on the USWest gateway.

... wth lead you to that conclusion?  Shrooms?

Changes to the game listings would be made in SID_GETADVLISTEX, the packet which is sent when you request the game listings.

Rather than trying to find a packet, not even of the same protocol, which has minor similarities to the one in question, you could try logging the events that occur immediately before & after receiving this packet before coming to another "conclusion."

nope!

It seemed he was saying i just found a random none BNCS protocol packet that looked like it, and said "they must be related" witch wasnt the case.

If it was aimed souly to Deception, then my mistake, sry.
