Yea, starcraft takes up ~20MB of RAM, it's not going to be a problem on any computer built after 1995.

If you have 480 then its not a RAM issue, I have 384 and it runs perfectly. I think its the power supply.

Falcon has a good point lol, I also had problems like that running any game. Problem was the fan in my power supply was shot and i had to replace it, so i did and everything is now in working order on that computer.

if that's the problem.
warning let your computer cool down for awhile befor attempting a fan replacement in the power supply, and be sure you unplug it lol.

edit: system was an HP Pavilion. HP is knowen for poor computer construction.

Thats an under statement. Personally I would never open up a psu, even if to replace a fan. I would just get a new one... opening a psu is asking for trouble.

i got 480mb of RAM and I have already formatted using System Recovery CD because I had this problem... and yet it doesnt seem to have fixed the problem.

Huh?  480MB?

I don't think you people realize that it's impossible to have 480MB of RAM installed in your computer which is why Grok posted that...

(or is it?)

I would seeing as it's far cheaper than paying $50 for a new one, when a new fan costs $5 - $10.
But then again if the wires are discolored and the psu itself has the smell of burnt plastic Or the inside walls are black then there are no choices but to buy a new one.

it is if the ram chip is bad.

It's impossible unless it will only recognize 480 mb of the ram. I have well over 384 but that's all it recognizes. I may be wrong and if I am someone tell me how to fix mine.

I am having the same problem with warcraft 3. I have 380mb of ram. 2000+ AMD Athlon. Im going to virus scan in a second.

Update: Are you using Starcraft in Windowed Mode. If you are try it without. It worked for my warcraft problem, so far.

Starcraft doesn't do windowed mode without a 3rd party program.

Could still be a problem. Starcraft mucked up when I used Skywings program(Probably just my computer ;)).

But I rather doubt he would be running it with Skywing's program and complaining the game itself doesnt' work.  Actually, I could see somebody doing that, but that takes a very special kind of idiot.

Replacing a power supply is pretty easy, if that's what has to be done.

It might just need more ventilation, at work and at my dad's they keep their computer in drawers, and that causes them to overheat, but don't try to explain that to them.

Open it up and make sure all the fans are working, first of all.
