I know this has probably been asked over and over but I need to download Visual Basic. I searched for it and the wolfness link doesnt work. I tried Kazaa but it hates me and it wont download. Where can i find it? I reformated my HD and i didnt save VB6 because i thought i would be able to get it back but i guess not. I really want to start coding again.

If you buy an MSDN Subscription, you can download it from subscriber downloads until December 31st.

I believe Microsoft does have a CE (Controlled Edition) on their website, and the only thing I noticed you can't do with it is make .exe's.

Ya I just downloaded it but its no fun. You cant use the Rich Textbox. No point of using it since i cant make exe's and you cant use some of the controls.

Winsock is disabled as well.

*shrug* You could go with a language which has feely distributed IDEs and compilers.

If you go to a university you may find a lot of reduced priced software. I got Windows XP Pro for $7 (including s/h) and VS.NET 2003 Pro for $15. The reason it's so cheap is because Microsoft wants the school to purchase more of their products if more students are used to their software.

They sell VS.NET 2003 Professional and Windows XP Professional for $10 here.  That's fairly common for colleges.  Microsoft does this because they're smart and can afford to offer stuff for low prices, in return for getting lots of the current generation of college students (read: future consumers/programmers/etc) familiar with their products.

So it's just another one of Bill's great ideas...

Is it legal to buy a copy for someone else?

I have one like the one your talking about. I dled cracks to let me use winsocks, rtbs, etc.

Check with your University about this website!  I was just going through my back email from the school which I usually don't read, and found out I have a username and password on http://msdn01.e-academy.com/colorado_cs/ -- they offer all the latest microsoft products for downloading for free.  Visual Studio 6, .NET 2002, .NET 2003, Windows Server 2003...you name it.
