Title: SuprNova Closing
Post by: hismajesty on December 20, 2004, 03:34 PM
:( Say it aint' so. (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/12/19/suprnova_stops_torrents/)

On the plus side 33.3% less of the internet (http://forum.valhallalegends.com/phpbbs/index.php?topic=9429.0) is being used up. ;)

I don't think the internet use will go down. Suprnova is one of hundreds of big torrent websites. I found another one pretty quickly.

yea, I shouldn't have used that large of a number since that's the total but I'm sure suprnova occupied most of that precentage. I don't know of many decent ones.

Suprnova was in no way decent.  It was awful and usually the blunt of jokes from good sites.

well suprnova is not the only bt site going down. Quite a few are as a matter of fact. Kerrazy torrents.com is covering its ass right now and removing all of the software and every game ever posted because apparently people were going to be doing after them. That woulda ticked me off because that is my one stop source for music!

Suprnova was the kazaa of the BitTorrent world.  The only reason I'm sorry to see it go is because it was probably the most public, open tracker out there.  I wanted them to stay up as long as possible, so that law enforcement types would waste all their time on them, rather than going after the good trackers.

Now TorrentBits closing up... THAT is something to be disappointed about.  Wish Redbeard had given a copy of the site to those that want to restart it before he wiped the drive...

Suprnova.org was a bit messy, I'll admit that. But I just need to say, anyone against it does have problems. www.bi-torrents.com, for a nice Suprnova mirror. (Its still there, too <3)

For all you people who use bittorrent, whats your favorite application for it? Mine would have to be torrentstorm.

I use bit tornado. What do you mean would have been? Bit torrent is not dead. One site that hosted torrents just got smacked... but there is a mirror.

Some of the site is in english, and the parts that aren't can be pretty easily translated just by looking at it.

Nah its not really closed! they only  closed down the site so they can make a program with another big bit torrent company! the program is going to be called exeem and it is going to be better than limewire and all those other programs! and it is going to be released in 13 days  :)

exeem is going to own and it is going to have tons virus free files and no spyware and even a ip spoofer i heard also

This has already been posted in this thread, and it has it's own topic.

Well, it's not going to have any spyware, but it specifically states that it's going to have adware in it.

With the kind of bandwidth that BitTorrent uses, is exeem going to be different? If not, then what's going to give exeem enough bandwidth to be able to download the ads?
Title: Re: SuprNova Closing
Post by: hismajesty on January 07, 2005, 04:23 PM
I think exeem is just going to be a place to download torrents to use on the BitTorrent network, a p2p harbor for them to avoid sole responsibility.

The problem with website based torrents is that the website it's self is vulnerable to mpaa and riaa and the website lags. This eliminates the website...

I just think it is going to turn my bt into kazaa :(. Because I mean when you click to dl the torrent you dl the torrent file but then exeem will run the download too and I just do not like the whole feel of it.

As much as I like bittorrent, i enjoy SoulSeek and DC++ far more, just search in google if your interested. I mainly search for rare music that most p2p services don't have, like kazaa and bt. That's where Soulseek comes in, although it has its downfalls.
