Title: Who needs JSTR packet logs?
Post by: DeCeP7ioN on August 19, 2004, 10:42 AM
I recently got a Japanese kid to send me an ISO of StarCraft Japanese. If anyone needs packet logs of in-game activity, let me know.

I would like the base game files, that is, non-patched StarcraftJ.exe, Storm.dll, and Battle.snp.

Wow. Google has failed me this time. I have looked all over for an iso on yahoo/google (english/japanese) and nothing! Also emailed blizzard telling them that I am a big fan of blizzard work/games and wanted to know how I could get a copy of the game for my collection. + posted a request of many warez boards. LimeWire also shows nothing. This SUCKS!

Edit: Also posted it on Ebay (http://wantitnow.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?WantItNowView&adid=5655006783)

I would be interested in these too.

The most reliable way would be to use an mpq editor to extract starcraftj.exe, storm.dll, battle.snp from StarDat.mpq.

Why? what's the difference between doing that, and just installing the game, grabbing the files, throwing them in a zip, and boot em to go? The game doesn't have an updater, theres no way the files can be "patched"... unless you refer to some other kind of patching? Just curious..

But since we are on the topic, I had the client at one time.. It was pretty interesting. If you could, I'd like the hash files as well..

Actually, at a glance the versions of JSTR battle.snp and storm.dll which I have do indeed appear to support patching.  Bnupdate is downloaded from battle.net and is not necessarily going to be in the game directory at install time.

Why do you think that JSTR doesn't support updates?

It seems like it can be patched... the Hdx dude who hosts hash files has JSTR v1.12 hash files on his webspace (http://hdx.no-ip.org/hashes/), if it couldn't be patched, you'd think the version would be 1.0 or less >_<

Anyways, I'd ask this Hdx dude, cuz he might have the Japanese Starcraft, know someone who does, or have some kind of info on where you might get it since he's hosting JSTR hash files...

'this Hdx dude' that made me laugh.
But no, I don't have it.
@FoFo's link,
If anyone can read/work with the site (sorry i don't undertand any japanese) Figure out exactly how much it would cost in USD to buy it and ship it to oregon, and I would gladly reemberse you via paypal.
And thanks for the link i'll try and get some of my friends to go to it, see if they can make sense (ALL literally of them are taking/speak japanese)

Do they sell it in Japan at all, anymore?

My dad's a flight attendant and goes there about once a month on average, so I could probably get him to pick up a copy from the shops if they have it..?

I think someone once mentioned that it was no longer sold in Asia. But this cannot be confirmed. I guess you can just have him check at a local game store. Are their GameStop's out there?

I still have JSTR. Just send me an instant message on AIM: DeCeP7ioN

And no, JSTR was never updated. Version 1.12 is the version it started as when it was released, and it still is the only version.

Oh, and StarCraft Japanese uses the same CD-Keys as StarCraft and Brood War, so don't think you need a special "jap key"

I can't, He made me agree not to redestribute it.
And I don't think blizzard will mind me having something like that for a game that is no longer produced.
And I'm refering to 'own' in the sence of 'having'
I actually ligitmly OWN (bought with my own hard earned money) every other blizzard PC game.

Seeing as how he's not legally allowed to sell you a bootlegged copy anyway, that contract is automatically null-and-void.

Well, Its compleet shit.
I cant play singel player, missing rex/gluCmpgn.bin -.-
I cant play multiplayer, unknown error (missing unknow file)
And now Lord said he did have the iso (recived from Deception) but hes unwilling to give it out.
Anyways I have learned a few things, Mainly, the logon sequance on bnet docs is incorrect (it sends other packets)
Also its funny, It forces the header to be sent and then thhe data to be sent in 2 diffrent TCP packets.

I think all clients will do that when you fresh install them, and the shareware cleints still do :P is the new packet 0x2B by any change? (sc shareware uses that, and SC shareware uses the same version byte as SC japan i think)
Any chance you can extract the mpq files and see if theres any interesting images/icons/w.e in there? :P
