2 40gig HDDs serve me well, I just need room for my games, about 200songs and some random programs.

All you really need is about 30gb of hd space for most needs but once you install more the one OS, like keep just about everything and save tons of media (mp3s, movies) on top of games (basically excessive amounts of entertainment you quickly run out of space. On top of this 120 GB harddrive are only about $60 after mail in rebates so there isn't much reason to not keep all of this on on your computer.

I have 10gb on my laptop, which I usually use to hold 1-2 games and VS.net and other utilities/stuff.  I also have 40GB on my main computer which I use to hold anything big that I don't need at school/etc. (movies, mostly).

I tend to convert all my movies to VCD and burn them, though.  I need a DVD burner

For those of us who work with uncompressed video, big hard drives are a must.
