It's stable, it works. There's no delete post, which sucks, but other than that, why bother?

We're definitely not using the oldest possible version.  it's 1.1.5.  1.1.6 just came out last week and it's in beta...

Plus, ipb and vbulletin are terrible

Actually SMF specially here is updated to the lastest, I wouldn't use anything other then SMF myself, vbbulletin/IBP are to bulky for my taste, It's just these forums havent added any extra themes, its okay though the classic looks great!

personally, IPB/vbbulletin are easier to get hacked, I've found more exploits on those then i have for SMF
