Heres a breif conversation, just to help get the point out. Naturally, I underlined a couple key lines.

But you're not vL, so you don't see the joke. This was funny. Funny because it's a typical example of the wrong reasons for trying to join, something that happens far too often. The fun lies in recognizing and saying "ah, yes, that's the way they all are....".

We want people who add to the clan. Saying that you want to join so you can get free help and ask questions without any risk of getting banned is not the way to go. I thought that would be obvious if you knew vL. But I suppose that guy didn't.

I'm not in vL and I recognized that Adron.  

The same goes for getting a job in the real world.  When they ask you what you why they should hire you, you don't say "So I can learn ... whatever".  That's definately part of it, but you want to tell them what you have to offer them.  "Hard worker" sounds a lot better than "willing to learn".

as far as I can see, people DO try to join vL for the wrong reason.  it's a bunch of programmers / techies / funny people, and people want their source, their help, etc...

I pester Skywing with my dumbass questions enough--dont need membership in vL for that

As for source--why would you need it?  write your own, or ask for it--if you're a member, you're probably capable of writing the program on your own...

I stick around 'cause you folks crack me up...  This thread especially because it's so damn true.  And, to be honest, I'm not gonna ask outright to join--if I get an invitation, fine, but the reasons I'd want to join are that I know everyone here, am friends with everyone, and they all are nagging me to...

Too many damn americans think there has to be gain from everything.  (If you don't follow this philosophy and are american, dont take offense... but it's a trend I've seen everywhere here...  I don't know how it is outside of the US 'cause I'm a sheltered nose.)
