I used to run PC-Cillin on all of my computers and never had much of a problem. I haven't run it in a few years and I'm not sure how it's changed and whats new in it. I was just wondering what all your opinions on it were. So, What do you all think of PC-Cillin?

Go back to Linux :P

I like it, but that's just me.

Pc-Cillin was always my personal favorite out of the AV's that I've used, just seems to work better all around. I don't currently have an AV installed though because I'm not particularly in the habbit of downloading random shit off the internet or opening email attachments from people I don't know :P

norton antivirus is the only way to go, pc cillin is garbage

I installed xp to a computer and connected it to internet.
When I came back about one hour later it was infected. Nobody had touched the computer during the meantime and downloaded anything and the email wasn't even configured.

I thought it was needless to do the updates of xp and have AV, because of the restrictive use of the computer. I was wrong. Obviously there are computers out there, scanning for unprotected computers like mine and infect them.

If you are unprotected, it is just a question of time when you will be infected.  :-\

I re-formated today, and as soon as I started my computer up and got on the internet I had about 15 messages pop up. I forgot to turn of windows messenger service though.

It's amazing to watch how many times a day your computer will get scanned for some trojan, or vulnerability.

I do not think anything is comeing through messanger besides annoying porno ads though. Its one of the first things I turn off though. That was a real A+ idea ms had with that one. I cannot remember how many times I have told people how to disable it. My neighbors, my brother, my mom, my dad, my friends.... ugh.

Do you ever wonder, what if symantec and other companies started spreading crap on kazaa and other networks, just tons of stuff? I mean that would be a wonderful idea besides the whole illegal thing. They could create  business. Its I guess a form of racketeering. Better by symantec or someone might just hack you, not saying its one of our employees, you never know, it would just be a good idea to buy it!

If it took an hour, you were lucky.  It tends to happen withing 2-4minutes.  And the patch for it is 2megs.  And we all know how long it takes to download that much on a 56k connection.  That was a tough day, downloading bits of it till I finally got the whole thing.

I took one hour till I got an angry phone call from the net provider. My computer was disturbing the net.
Maybe it was infected at once.

Aha, I understand.  But in any case, yes, internet viruses are nasty.

You almost HAVE to be behind a firewall or a router to format.

The messenger service has worked great for a long time. Just like e-mail. Not their fault that spammers abuse it.

I agree; it also works great on a closed network.  I haven't disabled it on any of my computers.
