MySQL is a web language? I thought it was just in PHP.. and those types of languages.. and like syntax that you would use to create databases, tables and stuff

MySQL is one vendor's implementation of the SQL standard.  SQL is a powerful, standardized method of accessing data in large databases, and is used for a great deal more than simply PHP-backed websites.
