You should play monthly, otherwise you don't get use out of it.

You should be aware that any computer can be a server, all you need is the proper software.  So how much for a cheap computer is the one time payment for a dedicated server.  For speed, however, you have many options.  You can use your cable internet at home, or get a corperate package.  You can also send your server to some major backbone (co-location).  It's wide open.

This'll make an interesting test for broken AV:

www.ev1servers.net is pretty popular...though I haven't used them myself so I don't know how good they are.

If you're looking for a game server host or a webhost, www.klan-host.us has been the best in my experience, great prices and impeccable service.

If you're looking for a dedicated server, www.buzhost.com is a brother-site to klan-host.us, but you can get dedicated servers there, and you'll be paying atleast $60/month for a low end server, which isn't very good for playing games on.

If you're looking for a dedicated server I'd go here, where you'll be paying $60/month for a low end server that would be fine for playing games on :)

Could use some more RAM, but it doesn't seem low end to me.

I meant low-end as in the lower end of their systems, but yea.

Ew. They bought a Linux license from SCO.

I'd think their support for SCO's battle against Linux is reason enough to look elsewhere for managed hosting.
