KSCD Errors

I've gotten sound working on my mandrake install, but when I try to go into KSCD, I get a permissions error, make sure you have /dev/cdrom permissions set. I seem to get the same error as well even if I login as root, I've googled the last day or so and saw a couple solutions I tested them on my system and nothing seems avail, is there another type of cdplayer I can install for listening to music, or perhaps I'm not doing something right. (which is what I'm leaning to) any suggestions?
