I downloaded this Sunday it's pretty good I suppose, I really like the fact that it's free. Anyway, does anybody else play this?

Crypticflare

If this is the game I'm thinking of, I tried it once a few months ago, but never got back into it. Overall its good for being a free release.

Yeah, I personally like it but everybody I've asked says they don't like it but they have no reason for not liking it. I just have nobody that I know to play with so get back on it Mike. :p

Hitmen

It offers nothing you can't get better in another game~

I think that was Battlezone.

Nice to know where your american taxes went eh(hah)?

I played it awhile back, it had so many glitches and froze up so much, sucked really.

I haven't noticed any glithces/freezing in the version I have.

Arta

I dislike it intensely, because it's a fairly blatent attempt to recruit children into the US army.

Yes, it does a good job of it too. It makes it seem less harsh than what it really is IMO.

Never heard of Battlezone, but Scorched Earth matches that description (except it was written for DOS, but Windows 3.1 was just a DOS program after all...). Indeed a great classic.

BattleZone was an Atari arcade ripoff of tankwar -- a mainframe multiplayer PvP game using vector graphics authored by Sherwin Gooch (who also patented the first synthetic woodwind for teaching music students over the computer).  When Gooch sued Atari, they settled by giving him a job as Vice President of Home Consumer Products Division for the United States.

I had played tankwar on the mainframe for a few years before it shown up in the arcades as Battlezone.  The mainframe ran an application called PLATO, which was acknowledged as the first to have such innovations as MORPG, Instant Messaging, and many others.
