Directory Indexing

It is my opinion that allowing the contents of a directory on a webserver to be listed is wicked.  If you happen to be on one of those servers, (Messiah), you can easily defeat the evil administrator by adding this line to your .htaccess file and putting it into the root directory of your site.

Options -Indexes

This option will filter down into all subdirectories.

That is much easier than putting a blank index.html page in every directory you have.  If your directory is still being listed, then the evil administrator bastard has AllowOverrides None and you need to find someplace else to put your website.

On the other hand if you WANT your directory to be listed, you can just change the minus to a plus and all will be well with the world.
That sucking sound you hear is my bandwidth.
