If you had the opportunity to save 50,000 people by killing (and even, say, torturing) yourself, would you? And, if you decided not to torture and kill yourself, would you have murdered those people? That's an interesting question.

I, for one, would definitely offer myself up.  It would make me feel like I'm living for a reason, and leave me feeling content with this life, and the choice(s) I've made.

I would not rush to judgment on this fellow human.  It's all new to him and has to be quite overwhelming.  If someone came to you and told you that you alone had the power to save the world and we need to perform biological tests on you, what would it do to you?  Probably none of us can predict how long it would take to adjust to this situation.  His life is now ruined, whatever it was it is no longer.  Whether its true or some false results, the rest of his life is changed.  If it were you, I am sure you would not want 50 million people insisting on what you should do, and if you don't comply, "you are slime", or "you are greedy", "selfish" or a thousand other descriptions.

He needs to proceed carefully and act in the best interests of himself, his family, and then humanity.  If that means he has to secure 20 million BP to guarantee he can live out a secure life away from his unrequested fame, then so be it.
