The above two articles are discussing the appearence of advertising servers which have found a way to introduce their nasty popups to our favourite pop-up blocking browsers.

A quick visit to this URL, and clicking any link will cause a pop-under to open. Something about taking advantage of onclick instead of onload.

This is meant to be a better example, but I can't visit because I've blocked all of fastclick.

In my experiments these pop-unders affect Firefox 1.0, Opera 8 Beta 1. Other users have reported them in Safari, and even admuncher is powerless to stop them.

Strangely enough, an up to date internet explorer successfully catches the popups.

For Opera users, the only workaround so far is to block ALL popups, not only the "unwanted" popups.

Popups are one thing, but what really pisses me off is when someone has an annoying little javascript driven ad that puts a 'fake' window on my window. I scroll, it follows, things slide out into the middle of the page. That crap annoys me and I was keeping my js turned off for a while. I think the next big thing is going to be when moz lets me turn off js from some sites, or just lets me edit what javascript I want my browser to execute.

You can already do this, by setting Configurable Security Policies.  In essence, you can disable Javascript for certain sites, or all but certain sites.  You can also fine tune what is allowed to run, if you can figure out its name.  Also, you will need to edit the control file by hand: there's no GUI for it.

i do have Firefox. apperantly firefox blocks it and then it opens up in a new windows. not tab, window.

Blaze

I got my first firefox popup today. I am afraid. I litterally starting yelling "Nooo!". Ask hdx.

Doubt it was a popup, most likely a popunder - which is what this thread is about.

Mangix

are those the ones in firefox that spawn a new window? cause firefox first blocks 1 and then another one spawns at the same time and shows up in a new window. not new tab.

I got a firefox popup too... but my blocker is set loosly. If I tighten the settings it would not have happened.
