UnknowN-TerroR, Short answer is that currently the actuall format or function of 0x05 is not publically [or as far as I know privately] documented. So, unless python has a way of running machine code you are out of luck.

I'd suggest a dynamic library. There are options for an inline assembler for Python but they're not good. So, sure, Python should be able to do anything any other language of choice is going to do.

Thanks.  It's not a bank website, but I have to be relatively obscure for non-disclosure reasons.  Essentially, users will pay no money and while doing things on our site can be given expensive items for free; very desirable items like iPods, Wiis, flatscreen TVs etc.  We don't want to be giving $3000 TVs to bots :).

Also, thanks for helping with the questions.  I appreciate it :).  I don't mind if you post them here, so people can comment, critique or improve upon anything we come up with.

When it's done (hopefully up and running by the end of the summer) I'll be sure to make an announcement here.  Also, I despise captchas; they're incredibly annoying.  We will only validate maybe every 10 actions per session so as not to piss people off.  They won't be super hard to read either, I won't implement slanted text or anything else like that, just random fonts (and possibly each character with its own font ;)).

As a side note, questions can have multiple answers when you submit them.  For instance, "what is two plus 4?" could be answered by either "six" or "6".  So don't feel restricted when posting :P.  Thanks again!

Lets see... CAPTCHAs or being quized every 10 actions... I wonder what's more annoying. Simple CAPTCHAs can be broken, though.

No one stated that they went to school for web development..

just wondering how many of you are actually in school, or are looking into going for web development.

The first part of the sentence states the subject is going to school.  The second part of the sentence uses the preposition "for" followed by "web development"; this means he's asking if anyone is going to or "looking into" getting a degree in web development.

What's a real degree? One that helps you get a job? Have you ever had a job?

Yes, I'm at work right now.

Anywho, my point is that "going to school for web development" is a waste of time.  If you have any technical prowess, it would be a much better idea to get a degree in something like Computer Science or Electrical Computer Engineering.  These are real degrees.

Also, don't be so defensive.  Unless you're wasting your time studying only web development then I'm not really insulting you...and if you are well then I don't really care what you have to say.
I think it may be tough to go to school just for web develppment. I'd think you'd have to take something like computer science or an IT degree, anyways.

Why wouldn't it be possible to just convert the java version, or whatever versions are out there, to Python? If that's the case then I bet there's plenty of people on here who "could possibly do it in private".

Hiding your Python code can be a problem.

In what way? In that it is "morally wrong" or because it is difficult to do?

In whichever way causes you to go off on some tangent that I won't read but make some response to in an attempt to get a hilarious nerd rage reaction out of you.

what language is it most similar to? i was reading some and the syntax didnt make sense to me.

and what does it have over .net or c++?

Python was influenced by various other languages - C, Haskell, Lisp, Perl, Java, etc. The syntax is one of the great features of the language, imo.

Python's interpreter runs on all modern operating systems, I believe - similar to Java's. .NET's does not. This is also an advantage over C++. A downside to Python, though, in my opinion is that the Python interpreter is just less known by the average user, compared to Java's. People may not be comfortable downloading it. Python does come with most linux installations and mac os, I think. Python does not come with Windows, though.

There is Jython, IronPython and PyPy, though. They're not up to speed with CPython but they do offer alternative options.

The dreaded error 18 virus. I remember when this hit really hard back in the summer of '93.

i was just curious as to its place in future of programming. is it a fad language or should i look into learning it?

What - Python? Python is by no means a 'fad' language. It's a great language.
