Title: Smoking
Post by: Meh on September 23, 2004, 12:08 PM
It came up on news how many young people smoke so just a poll to see how many people older/younger smoke.

I started when I was 10. I had an older brother who smoked and he let me start. About 3 years back I was smoking a carton of camel non-filters in 2-3 days but I've cut back to a pack every 2 days.

I smoke ashton virgin sun growns and random sized punches. I also like macanudo ascots and almost any of the cigars from the ashton cabinet line.
Snoked pot from age 10-20. I'm on probation now so I don't smoke pot anymore.

When I was 18 I stole a Lexus LS 400. And when I'm off probation and move out of the states I will smoke pot every once in a while. I'm not going to smoke all day everyday like I used too.

I found the thread I started, here:

http://forum.valhallalegends.com/phpbbs/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=28

I swear that it used to be a poll, but apparently the pollness of it got eaten.  Oh well :)

<edit> Incidentally, it IS ancient.  March of '03, so over 1.5 years ago :D

I agree with Robert Deniro, smoking is a sign of weakness.

I would extend that to say that any kind of addiction is a sign of weakness, whether it be to smoking or drugs or whatever.

Where did Robert Deniro say that?
As far as I know he's always been a cigar smoker.

I smoke marijuana a couple times weekly, it helps me relax and makes socializing easier for me. I also find that the day after I get high I concentrate very easily, and comprehend most things that are taught. I offset some of the health problems by exercising regularly and doing cardio activity.

I don't smoke pot anymore, that was kind of a habit I grew out of.  I however do smoke Turkish Royals.

I have never really smoked pot, but when im drunk I get along with people more easily, the only problem is I tend to regret it all the day after, cos I get tired.

Hey, that's exactly right. The only difference is I can handle it. I was doing it daily in the summer, first 2 weeks of school I just stopped. Then football set in, and along with a few hours of homework I didn't have any time to relax and started getting really stressed out.

Quitting is by no means hard, I enjoyed those 2 weeks I stopped like you would not believe. It sounds to me like you've read a few articles and came to the conclusion you know everything there is to know.

The only side-effects of smoking a lot of pot is loss of memory and lack of effort towards anything  :P.

Which wear off after a couple days of not smoking it...

Of course, I'm biased, so what do I know.

I've been told the damage is permenant, but who knows?

The reason I said "who knows?" is because there are plenty of studies that prove both ways that I've read about.  I don't think we'll ever get a straight answer about it.

Right on.  I believe the latest theory is that some brain cells are "coated" by some chemical and then released some period of time later, which IIRC was several months after you quit.

Beware of attempts/studies that seek to "prove (something)".  Instead, you should be looking for theories which withstand scrutiny.  Things that cannot be proven false (or have not yet), have more weight with me.  Read about the on-again/off-again theories that the universe exists in "ether" for more discussion on why this approach is preferable.  In math you can prove something right, but I don't think many other areas offer this ability.

Well, in this situation I think it's totally possible to either prove that smoking weed causes permenant damage or that it doesn't, but everybody who tries to go either way has their own agenda and their opinion or study is biased one way or another.
