Define your idea of strategy.
I have been putting some thought into a turn based strat/rpg, its mostly ideas on written up on paper though.

starcraft clone basically.

we should probably write in a language which
- is easy to learn to allow a large developer pool
- has a graphics/sound/input/networking library
- fast development

my vote is obviously python, but i can learn anything. no lisp plz.

C#  :)

If we go 2-d, System.Drawing is fine.  If we want 3-d, Managed DX9 is fine too.

2d. We could use 3d models rendered in 2d, though.

A 3d game simply won't happen.

Naive?  I'm aware of the complexity of such a suggestion, and made it in seriousness.  Besides, it'd be fun to see you try. :)

So don't learn a language.  Be an OOP designer or something.  Draw us pictures.  ;)

I think a game would be the most fun, but of course there's other stuff we could do.

I think the language of choice, for a communtity project on this forum, would have to be Visual Basic 6.0.  Why?  Because the majority of the users on here know that language!

Perhaps the language itself wouldn't be able to handle a game, but there are plenty of 3d engines outthere designed for that language.  The one I would have the highest hopes for is TrueVision3D.

Well I don't have VB 6.0, so...

I delegate you as the new leader of the project :)

I'm pretty sure we've moved on from the original idea....
