Title: SuSE Package Manager
Post by: jigsaw on September 14, 2004, 10:30 PM
Is there any type of portage for SuSE? I can't believe yast doesnt have a package download/installer manager? Any how, someone perhaps point me in that direction.

In yast under install/remove software you can get just about anything you need. Do you have professional or personel?
I think you installed from cd so I'd suggest changing your source of instalation to ftp.
First get a ftp server in your area. Here's a list:
http://www.suse.com/us/private/download/ftp/int_mirrors.html
I'd suggest making sure you picked one that was complete.
Then go to a console and do
~>dig <ftp server>
You'll get a readout that looks like this:
; <<>> DiG 9.2.3 <<>> ftp-linux.cc.gatech.edu

You will also need the directory for my ftp it's /pub/suse/suse/i386/9.1/
Go to the green lizard head>syatem>yast>software>change source of instalation. Select the add button at ther bottom and select FTP. Put the server name you got in the server name space and the directory path in the Directory of Server space. Leave it anonymous and select ok. Then select finish.
Now go to the green lizard head>syatem>yast>software>install and remove software. You will see a tab up top that says filter:
Select package groups and I think you should be able to find just about anything you need.
