Title: World of Warcraft Stress Test
Post by: Invert on August 29, 2004, 02:21 PM
The stress test for WoW sign-up has begun! Blizzard needs 100,000+ testers for their stress test; they will be testing the account creation process and server performance under heavy loads. This test will only last seven days and will not be on the same server as the original beta test.

The download and the unique game key assignments are hosted by FilePlanet so you will need a FilePlanet account to participate and download the beta client. Once all the slots are filled there will be an announcement of when the beta stress test will begin.

I saw this the other day, was interested but don't feel like throwing away $15 (not that it's not worth it). Does anybody know if they'll allow you to download more than one copy from your account, and have a unique key for each copy? Maybe we can get people to pitch in so it will be cheaper.

You don't have to pay to have a file planet account.  I signed up about 20 minutes ago and received a key.  Unfortunantly, because file planet is a piece of shit, my download of wow_stresstest_beta.zip will start in approximately 95 minutes.  Far longer than my actual download will take.

I signed up a for a key, but they're currently out. People are selling stress test keys for $5 on ebay, I'd register a few emails and take a few keys :P

Nowhere on there does it say that the beta is full, which is what I asked.

I was replying to your post.

Think through it, it isn't a complex problem. They're doing a stress test on their servers, with 100 000 people at the same time. The purpose off the stress test is to see how the server handles all the people and all the content. They obviously need to include as much content as possible while keeping the official release with new content. It will be 70% of the game I'd say.

Like I also said, they release information to their website, so if the website doesn't have the information then nobody knows. You have to put a little bit of effort into finding the answer for yourself before posting it on a forum.

I asked if the beta was full, why don't you think through my question and realize that your link didn't say if it was full or not. You said they're out of keys, so I was asking you if that meant that the 100,000 slots were also full. I don't need a snotty retort because you failed to answer my question, I'm very capable of going to www.worldofwarcraft.com without your assistance, but I was asking you not the website.

It says on the website that once all 100, 000 slots are filled they will announce it's over.

You said they were out of keys, so I was asking YOU if the 100,000 spots were full. The website does NOT say they are out of keys so, apparently, it doesn't hold as much information as you'd like me to beleive.

Downloading a huge file like that for a 7 day test is pointless.

No it isn't. 7 days is actually pretty long compared to some - Guild Wars was only a 3 day test.

Why not? I figured it was just a display bug.
