Have fun.
I'd offer invites, but I'm out of them until google gives out more.
1000 page loads per second :P
That can't be good for their bandwidth :)
Closest I've gotten was 1388 :(
Gmail is still beta as far as I know....
It is still beta, that's why it's hard to get an account. You need an Invite.

Cos thats not 1337.
Gmail will be beta for quite a while
Don't have any invites left now..sorry.
I'll repost when they give out more.
You have options:
1. Wait until you get an invite.
2. Wait until it goes public.
3. Get carpal tunnel clicking on the Gmail Machine thing.
3. Trade sexual favors to somebody for an invite.
4. Buy one on ebay. They're going for $1.50 ~ $5.50.
If I had know Yoni had extra invitations, I would have picked #3. Go go ebay. I logged in and within 30 minutes I was Gmailing. I want to give a shout out to Spht for popping my cherry!
I have sat there refreshing the page for half an hour and still no luck.

I set up various contests to give away 5 invites. Try out here:

They go for that on ebay.
I'm giving someone here the opportunity to make some money without listing on ebay, so they don't get charged for listing and lose what little money they'd make :P

It's puss'n boots, there's nothing adult-oriented about that. It's something from the 50's or something.

It's from a (I think Spanish) old legend where the cat was named Puss'n boots. I forget the whole story but the cat has to do a ton of things to deceive the King into thinking he's a Prince (yet hes only a peasent) in order to marry the princess.

What's so great about Gmail compared to other free e-mail services? Other than the obvious 1GB of storage...
I'd prefer to continue using MS Outlook 2003 and a server where I can utilize unlimited space...And who honestly uses 1GB of space for their e-mail? Don't you people delete old messages? Even if you save important messages (understandable) do you really save 1GB worth? Hmm...
10mb limit on sending files, as opposed to Hotmails 1mb? Also, I find the interface in gmail is alot more friendly than hotmail, it takes less time to load, and it's easy to get used to. Options are also easier to change than hotmail.

GMail is designed so you don't have to delete messages. The interface loads just like google.com, fast and it's clean and user friendly. There's many reasons apart from juse the storage limites.
It's also MUCH better for transferring photos to people. Everyone I know uses Hotmail and 50% of the time I go to send someone digital images their account space is full due to the 2mb limit. I'm gradually giving out Gmail accounts to everyone we do photo swamping with so we don't have to worry about that problem for a long time.
I like the workspace a lot more in Gmail also.
However, looking at the image Thing provided I don't see how it compares to MS Outlook 2003. I'm not against Gmail really, and I can see why someone would use it over Hotmail and Yahoo now. But, for those of people who have access to a server for their e-mail account (vL members? Spht?), why not use MS Outlook 2003 which has a by far better interface than Google it seems to me.

Outlook is way bloated. I uninstalled it about 2 years ago. Yes, vL members can use Valhalla Legend's e-mail server, but why would I want to suck up the server's bandwidth transferring photos when I can use Google's server which has a lot of bandwidth.
You're thinking of a small group too much. Not everyone has their own server which gives them 100GB of e-mail storage. Continue to use Outlook if that's what you like, and don't use Gmail.
Thinking of the public, Gmail is excellent. Everyone has 1GB of storage for sending e-mails and transferring photos for years, and have a nice interface to do it in.
Spht said it -- Outlook is bloated. I also find Outlook hard to configure, because I've always just used hotmail and am not used to how it runs. Not to mention, (ew!) security risks. Google is like a faster version of hotmail.
The thing that bugs me the most is I use Opera currently, until I reformat. Hotmail is made by microsoft and supports Opera. Google is made by google, which is anti-microsoft in a way (I'm sure microsoft made a generous offer to buy them, and they didn't accept out of spite), and I can't use Opera to log into Gmail (due to activeX being disabled, unless somebody knows how to change this).
I have access to a mail server with my websites, I still don't use outlook for them. Whenever I check them I do it on the web, because I just don't like Outlook/Outlook Express.

Firefox blows. If I could get used to it, I'd use it. I may end up getting used to it, but for now I'm sticking with the IE based Avant Browser -- suits all my needs perfectly.
Took me about 5 minutes to get used to it. It's superior in every way.

Yup -- Outlook 2000 and XP
are bloated. However, I have not had a single problem with 2003. It's extremely easy to get up and running (about 3 minutes for me), and the interface is SO MUCH NICER than stupid 2000/XP. Junk mail filter is great, and that is set up the first couple times you mark something as junk mail (which it alerts you to do when you first download email).
I'll let you know how it turns out, but at the moment, I have about 6 months worth of email on the machine, and there is no slowdown whatsoever.
QuoteGmail requires ActiveX controls to be enabled
Your browser seems to be Internet Explorer, and ActiveX seems to be disabled. Gmail requires ActiveX to be enabled in order to operate.
To use Gmail, enable ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer. You can do this by going to the Tools menu, selecting Internet Options, Security tab, Internet zone, and either select the Default Level, or selecting Custom Level and scrolling down to "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" and selecting Enable.
After enabling ActiveX controls, try again.
I have Opera set to detect it as IE 6 to the internet, thats why it says IE. Just the activeX part, I've searched and searched, found nothing.
I'm starting to like opera alot, feel alot safer, and can close all my open windows at once if I need to. Just alot of customizing to do.
Edit: http://www.opera.com/support/search/supsearch.dml?index=415&session= (http://www.opera.com/support/search/supsearch.dml?index=415&session=)
Voila. I lied when I said I did alot of searching, I just searched through options, entering "activex" into the Opera help search brought that up.
Avant.
Google was nice enough to give me one (1) invite.
