Title: Webbot
Post by: Mephisto on June 13, 2004, 11:31 PM
I'm sure I'm not the only who's been curious/annoyed about this.  Why doe Webbot go down so often?  It's always a server application error, and it lasts for days sometimes.  Unless it's just me for some odd reason, what keeps happening?

It likes to take naps.  It must be tired of listening to conversations from dozens of different channels all day.  Could you blame it?

Let me continue to bitch about a service that a group of extremely intelligent people offer for free, but is unreliable, rather than figure out how to implement it myself and then not have to worry that people who don't have unlimited time and resource won't be able to maintain it to my own liking.

Eh? I don't see Maddox bitching about Webbot anywhere.

I love version asshole, I abuse it frequently.

Yeah, sure.  And actually Myndfyre, I do have a version implemented.  Unfortunately it consumes massive system resources rendering it useless right now until it's fixed.  ;)  But that's besides the point, you don't need to give some statement like that in defense of them, it's not as if I was attacking them with their inability to keep Webbot services up 24/7 all of the time.  *shrug*

I have no control over the WebBot service.  It's ran on the Valhalla Legends server and you blame me for its downtime.  All I did was write a client and distributed it free of charge.

As MyndFyre said, write your own service instead of complaining that ours isn't 100% reliable.

I get the funny feeling you're directing this towards me, but just to say I'm not blaming you for its downtime.  Mostly just curious as to why it suffers downtime so often...Anyways, this topic is going no where, so as they say, STFU.

No, it wasn't directed towards you.  You asked nicely and I gave you the non-technical reason.  It's not going to help if we give you the technical reason, so it's your best bet to sit and wait for it to wake up.

He never asked you in particular. I don't see you being blamed anywhere. Pipe down.

What's the technical reason currently? Still IIS5 vs 6?

The ISAPI services seem to break down since IIS6 move, and requires IIS restart to fix.
