Title: A riddle for all of you.
Post by: Dante on March 16, 2004, 09:14 AM
How do you send $10 US to Yoni in Israel?

Easy.  Send me $25, and I'll make sure he gets $10 of it.

My paypal is [email protected], oddly enough.

But how would you get the money to Yoni?

Totally! Didn't think of that idea.

l]ante: As I told you over E-mail, I don't want to give you my home address, but I've no problem giving it to Grok (in fact, if he keeps very old E-mail archives, he already has it).

Obviously Grok will require extra for shipping, handling and commission charges.

Better yet, I'll give you my home address.  Send me $50, and I'll make sure Grok gets $25 of it.

Trying to buy it will get you +B'd :P

Btw, a guy at my work offered to give you his address so you can send him $100, he'll make sure I get the $50, I'll make sure Grok gets the $25, and he'll make sure Yoni gets the $10.  How's that sound?

Send Yoni $200, and I'll bet he makes sure your coworker gets $100 ...

And if you send Grok $400, he'll ensure that Yoni gets the $200.

So, by the pattern, just send my coworker $1600 and we'll take care of the rest.

lol.
How about I just send Grok $25, and he will send Yoni $10.
I like that idea much better than yours.

I don't have a credit card.

Edit: Even if I had one, I would need a U.S. bank account to withdraw money into, since Israel is not a PayPal "withdrawal country".

I don't see why MSN is needed.  I will forward Yoni the $10 when I receive your money in my paypal account.  Easy.  Yoni might even start work when I tell him I have the money.

From the list you posted, it seems like Israel is.

"(some high ASCII byte) PayPal accepts withdrawals to local bank accounts in these countries. Users in any country may withdraw funds to a U.S. bank account."

Israel is not listed with the high ASCII byte, so you can't withdraw from PayPal to local bank accounts in Israel, only to U.S. bank accounts...

Are there not US banks with branches in Israel?  Seems impossible there not be, since so many Americans and Israelis reside in each country.

Don't be embarrased Grok.  Minimum wage is better than unemployment.  At least that's what I tell myself on payday. :P

Exactly, I don't understand it. If you're rich people can tell you're rich, if you're fat people can tell you're fat, so why try to hide it?

Well, can't tell anything online without pictures, but I mean in RL.

Burden of proof in an argument is on the positive

Go into any junior high or high school people are dressed more or less in the same way regardless of socioeconomic status.  Why?  Because the ones without money spend theirs to appear exactly as the people who do have money.  They arent dirtier or carry signs saying Im poor or anything so I want to know how you can tell

There are even people who just dont care and wear crappy stuff whether or not they have money
Title: Re:A riddle for all of you.
Post by: hismajesty on March 21, 2004, 09:45 AM
If they don't have money it'd be impossible for them to dress like those that have money, perhaps they'd have a few of the same/similar things but not exactly and probably not even close to those with money. In my high school it's fairly simple to tell between those that do and those that do not have money.

Bah I go to a school with a dress code (i.e uniform) and I guess you can't really tell if someone is wealthy or not by what they wear. However, the way they act, what they do on their free time, what they get involved in are all pointers to social status. In a school setting, you see these people every day and it is kind of hard not to tell where they are at.

When I'm outside of school, it's still easy to tell by where they live, what car they drive, jewellery or not, and still behaviour. It's true some people splurge on certain things whether they can afford it or not, and those who can afford sometimes don't, but the majority of the time you can tell with a good degree of accuracy.
