Quotef you're on a P2P network, you could be bumping up against all the worms and viruses carried by other users of that network. And you could become a carrier of worms and viruses that are written by misanthropic hackers specifically to spread via popular P2P networks.

Wait, are they for or against p2p?  Aren't they on the same side as the people they are calling misanthropic?

TWENTY THREE BILLION DOLLARS
Talk about pulling numbers out of your ass. I'm sure the FBI knows of every song, movie, software or game title downloaded last year.

Heh, that makes me think of how Blizzard campaigned against bots.  It wasn't that bots were bad, its that bots carried viruses, trojans, and so forth.  "Download a bot; acquire a virus!"

So now the FBI is trying to make people afraid of P2P networks using the same tactics?

Why not? Anyone who'll be scared away by such tactics probably doesn't share too many worthwhile things as it is. More bandwidth for the rest of us. ;)

Anyone else find it amusing that fbi.gov's favicon is Netscape's icon?

I thought that was odd, but then again I have seen other sites that do that. No idea why, though.

QuoteA person using P2P utilities for unauthorized or illegal purposes is not as likely to tell the FBI that an exploit (back door) was found on their system, or that as a result, certain personal or financial information may have been taken

Hmm, I wonder why.
