Walk, then run. Understand GreetBot, how it works, and be able to write one yourself without looking at GreetBot source code. This will get you familiar with how to process data from the network, and how to implement most of your bot features. You'll be a better programmer later if you learn as you go.
But if you must run, use this forum's advanced search feature in Battle.Net Bot Development. There you will find every answer to possibly every basic question on binary client bot writing, and samples of source code for everything.
Does somebody want to check his ip? Is he seroius? Almost sounds like somebody playing a prank :)

Why would you think I'm not serious? If he's taking an introductory C++ class, there's no reason GreetBot won't be suitably educational for him.

Maybe you're just TOO smart. ;)
It just seemed to stereotypical! "I just started learning VB and now I want to make a bot!" is such a common question, then somebody posted almost exactly that, but in C++, it sounded suspicious! :P
