Post by: BlazingKnight on October 09, 2003, 03:46 PM
Is there a decoding function for WC2?

It's identical to that for Diablo II.

If the decoding is the same for D2, then the keys must be similar in some what.

What are the odd's a WC2 keys will work on D2 (and vice-versa)
And what are the odd's a WC2 key will install on D2 and work w/ b.net (and vice-versa)

The keys are similar, same length and such.  You should be able to install with either key, but not get on Bnet.  And since AFAIK no one knows the key-verifying routine used by the server, there is no way to know if they ever would work like that.

Have you actually tried this?

IIRC, the CD keys have a product ID embedded in them, which if such is the case, it would make sense for the installer to verify that the product ID is correct.

Correct me if I'm wrong though, it's been months since I've done anything Battle.net related, and I currently don't have access to my work.

You just pulled a Camel.  You should really test your theories (if possible, in this case it is very possible) before submitting them to a public forum.

Well I really didn't feel uninstalling D2 (to free up enough space), then installing it again (a very long install on my system), just to test that.

Where might I find that? I've searched through the forums and google, but to no avail.
