Title: Icons - .bni files
Post by: Alendar on February 18, 2008, 12:55 PM
OK, so I am wondering how many different icon file there are and how to open some of them.

I have successfully retrieved and opened:

icons.bni
icons_STAR.bni
legacy_icons.bni

Yet I am having trouble finding these files:

icons_SEXP.bni (Listed here by Hdx -- http://forum.valhallalegends.com/index.php?topic=17305.0)

In my SphtBot folder I have:

war3_icons.bni  is that the same as icons-WAR3.bni and how would I open this file?

Also how would I open w3xp_icons.bni? (This one is also in my SphtBot folder and not listed in the topic above by Hdx or Spht)

Thank you,
Alendar

w3xp_icons.bni & war3_icons.bni files are really mpq files.

Not sure why legacy_icons.bni was on hdx's list--it's not something you can download from the battle.net server, but rather an icon collection i made that contains most of the diablo1/warcraft2/starcraft icons

As for war3_icons.bni and w3xp_icons.bni, they are regular battle.net icon files, with larger width/height than you'd expect from legacy icons.  if you render icons using the dimensions specified in the bni, you should have no problem viewing them

How would I go about doing this? I am just trying to get them so I can use them as 28x14 icons.

I thought that wc3 icons files were MPQs like ice said. I haven't looked at them in a long time so i don't know. As for the legacy_icons.bni being in my list, I simply did a "ls" in my BNFTP cache dir.

Well, icons-war3.bni that you can download from bnftp is a mpq, but war3_icons.bni and w3xp_icons.bni are what i made and are regular icon files

You will have to resize and/or crop them then.  that's the approach darkminion went with in dmbot (compare (http://www.valhallalegends.com/spht/images/dmbot-sphtbot_quality.gif)).  they are not all that bigger than legacy icons, so i just used their original size, and it looks fine (http://www.valhallalegends.com/spht/images/sphtbotv3_war3icons.gif)

Oh... thought maybe it was a custom made object...

On a side note, I still like mine... (http://realityripple.com/Uploads/icons/Warcraft%20III/00.bmp)

Meh, I'd rather use ZIP files. Anyone can open and edit the contents of a ZIP file.
