sorting hat, reference to the sorting hat in the harry potter series (book). it was a hat that could read minds that basically organized students into specific "castes" that best suited their ambitions, personalities, etc. it's a play on the quote the hat said when he placed harry potter into his group.

haven't read the series for quite a while, so pardon me if i have my terminologies all wrong. the basic idea stands though.
