Title: Dead Computer
Post by: Eric on October 11, 2006, 04:55 PM
When waking up one morning, I discovered that there was a frozen Windows Explorer window on my screen so I rebooted my computer.  The computer failed to reboot, displaying the BIOS logo screen and then freezing after the first status message appeared displaying my CPU information.

I turned off the computer, reseated the memory and cleared the CMOS via the on-board jumper.  The computer then failed to start at all.  I've removed all of the components, and purchased a new power supply.  After installing a POSTCard, I've discovered that the system haults before even entering POST (0x00).  Does this entail the demise of my motherboard or may there be another possible problem that I am currently unaware of?

It sounds more like your chip burnt out, if it were the board you shouldent have seen anything on starting it. Now since you have played with the mother board I would suggest sending it in to the shop and haveing it looked at closer.

What kind of cooling settup do you have in this tower btw.

If the CPU failed, wouldn't the problem be addressed during POST?

Unless it was a simultaneous failure, which seems unlikely.
