You heard right ... it's FREE. No catches no gimmicks. All you have to do is buy an adapter for your computer and be within around 1000 ft of my house. My neighbors on either side of me are already online for the low low price of FREE!!!
What price will you be negotiating for a distance from your house equal to the Earth's average diameter?

Half the earth's circumfrance plus any big hills and such might be a little easier, less digging is involved...
When I launch my satellite into orbit, all will be well with the world.
So far I have $24.17 USD saved up for it. :P
You can buy a case of beer with that much!
You should have a wireless hub (like I'm sure you do), get your neighbours to get wireless hubs, and get their neighbours to do it, until the whole city is one big wireless network. You'd literally be able to see the packets being lost into the void all around you!
You'd have to make sure it was 802.11b though.. ;D

I consider that to be a catch thus making this whole deal a gimmick.
