how do you do it yourself?

You need HashData() and CheckRevision(). I don't know where to find any which are ported to Linux (Prolix's source might work, it's a non-working FreeBSD bot IIRC, http://prolix.sourceforge.net). But there's plenty of sources available for both functions if you feel like you wish to port it yourself.
Hi. I would be interested in porting it to c#. I've checked groups.google.com, www.google.com, www.altavista.com, www.yahoo.com, www.webcrawler.com and did a search on this forum. No luck for either hash or checkrevision source.
Can you point us in the right direction?

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/prolix/prolix/src/auth/
HashData():
sha1.cpp
sha1.h
CheckRevision():
vercheck.cpp
vercheck.h

Battle.net Version Check (by Yobguls)
Excellent. Thanks!
It'll run super-slow in C#; it already runs super-slow in asm!
so thats all you need is those 2 functions and you dont need BNLS ?
i got an old checkrevision funciton
and bnetauth? anyone know what that is? i dont know if it is any good or uptodate, does anyone use it?
oh btw i succesfully authorized on bnls

Though if you want to use war3, or if you want to be able to logon after NLS activates, you'll also need NLSComputeLogonChallenge, NLSComputeLogonProof, and a few others. These are presently only available from a very select set of places.
what are those NLS functiosn for?
dont understand when you would need them
NLS = New Logon System. It's used by War3. If you want to logon as War3, you'll probably have to use BNLS. Or BinaryChat, that works too.
nah i dont care what i log in as , as long as i can goto all the channels
There isn't anything you can log in as that can go to all the channels ;)

Or is there
The only way I know of is by using a privileged login... And nobody here has access to one.

p.s. what do you mean by privilged login? like a blizzard account?
what i meant was avoid the chat restrictions

There are certain channels which you must be either a privileged user or on a specific product to join (and some which you must be a privileged user, period). Because you cannot be on two products at once, these channels are mutually-exclusive to normal, unprivileged users.
