Title: Motherboard question
Post by: Tazo on February 25, 2006, 05:43 PM
I am considering investing in a new motherboard, but I have a question: would I be able to remove my CPU chip from my existing computer? I didn't build this one, its eMachines brand. I was just curious if i would be able to remove the cpu without damaging it and stuff (and without spending $300 on a new processor).

Thanks in advance.

That depends on how eMachines has things set up on the board. Usually you can, just make sure that you get a motherboard with a socket type that matches your processor.

You should be able to remove it just fine, but as Stealth briefly mentioned: finding a superior board which supports the processor will be a challenge especially if it's an older model.

Ah.. ok. I was upgrading so I could have a PCI-E slot for a better video card, or at least AGP, but I guess that does make sense LoRd. Thanks for the fast reply guys!
