You'll come around. The first dozen or so posts from Crazed, I just ignored them. Even for a while after that, I wrote off complaints about it. Now, I find myself agreeing with the people who think he posts too many news links.

Looking at the 8 posts I have on the "front" page of the General section I see that:
-1 has little relevance to most people but still slightly just an interesting tid bit that one dude is convicted of murder & only got 17 yrs while another inmate has 110yrs for being convicted of multiple assaults.
-The basketball thing just seemed enteraining.
-Dog drug smuggling seemed rather 'feeling invoking', something people might be interested in talk about smuggling methods
-Unschooling doesn't seem logical to me, so I talked about it
--Everything else was posted and became rather interesting discussions

We could all post and complain about how he posts to much, or we could just simply say that if he over posts again with topics that aren't really relevant to anything that this forum represents, then delete or move his posts to the trash can. Here, the local High School Scholastic Bowl tournaments on TV get better ratings than the news. CrAz3D is just helping keep America (and Canada, and the UK, etc.) informed. :)
Actually, I think a 'commenting on the news' forum would be a good idea. It could be a subforum of general or politics, and Crazed would obviously be a good choice for moderator.

Maybe then there should be a rule that severely limits news posts to ones that are controversial? I don't think the a new topic should be spawned by a news link, but should be based on the person genuinely wanting to discuss the topic with the community.

I disagree. A highly categorised forum -- assuming that new categories are only added as they become necessary -- is a good indicator of growth. These forums are gaining more posters, and as such, the range of interests of its posters have broadened.
I think a news forum would be a good idea. Lots of news posts aren't really appropriate for general, but the threads are posted on and do develop into conversations. Yes, all of that is irrelevant to me. I do not live in the united states, or anywhere close to that border (You and lou dobbs would be great pals). People sueing the school system? Good, they're raising tuition in Canada, or in Ontario atleast. The bottom line is I don't come here to read news, I come here to help ppl with technical questions and ask some of my own, that's really about it.

You know, if you want to post something, then post it. If you don't want to read it, then don't. THere's nothing that says what you can or can't post about.
And for those of you who obviously don't want to read it but do anyway, why are you getting pissed off about it? You're not paying to be here. If you hate it so bad, YOU go start your own forum, and actually make a contract that must be signed or whatever, so that your members post things that only YOU want to see.
Oh and if you'll notice, this is the only thread where people seem to be talking about it. There are plenty other things you can read rather than this. And they aren't things about the news either! You have no reason to get pissed off.

Crazed, you're completely missing the point, or misstating it on purpose. I hope you're just misunderstanding and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and explain once again.
1) Forums exist for people to have interesting discussions.
2) Forums have topics, people expect to read on-topic subject matter.
3) News sites post news, you can go there to read about it.
4) You were simply linking news to the forum, nothing interesting, just links to news.
5) Your action turned the forum into a news site. This is what annoyed everyone.
6) Sometimes you would post news and comment on it, but the news would be so localized, nobody else could care.
I hope this helps, because I get the feeling from your posts that you're indignant about being asked to clean up your posting habits. If so, then "you'll get over it" ($1 royalties to Yoni), or you'll be uncomfortable while you're here.
Also, people assume you're intellectually invested in a topic (care about it) if you post one or two with a thoughtful commentary on the subject matter. Linking a news article and saying "Discuss" makes most people skip right over it.
I haven't misunderstood, I believe I've 'cut back' on posting news QUITE a bit frm my 'peak posting'.
As far as the posting an article & just saying "comment" it is probably because I agree quite a bit with the article and would like to have other opinions/view points on it & see what people think about whatever subject, is that so wrong to do?
But the point is you didnt really explain your opinion. It would have been better if you went into detail on your opioion then created a debate between others.

Enlightenment follows. Two standards are for two distinct groups. One group is vL members. The other group is everyone else. Are you keeping up? Inclusivity and exclusivity always implies double standards. vL is an inclusive group, not truely exclusive. We include those people we want in our group, and they get the vL standard.
