I personally think it's kind of scary. AT&T + (insert company here) (SBC?) and Verizon + MCI (methinks). Does this scare anyone else?

It's been happening for a long time. I believe SBC first merged with Yahoo!. Later I heard that they bought AT&T. Recently they started working with Cingular as well. I woudln't doubt it if even more companies got involved and it someday became one large company with a very large amount of power.
I don't understand what's scary about it...

Perhaps he's just being a bit sarcastic? Sarcastic because they will soon "take over the world".
Monopolies. Communications monopolies could be bad for my wallet.

Of course, the US tries to keep the market open to competition, or so it says. There was a term for the breaking down of large companies into several smaller companies, but I forgot what it was. It's supposed to give smaller companies a chance to compete, and as we all know, competition drives prices, so the more competition there is, the better. At least, better for the consumer.
<3 capitalism
I say everyone just boycots communication.. who needs telephones/cellphones or anything of that like... So from here on out, every who reads this quit using telephones and cell phones.

The last time there was a communications monopoly it was promptly broken up by the US Department of Justice. What makes you think that wouldn't happen the next time around?
