Title: Scamming my Employer for more money... :)
Post by: MyndFyre on July 27, 2005, 12:36 PM
Hi guys,

So, very few of you know this, but much of the time I spend on these forums is from work.  I've worked for the town government, in the Parks and Recreation department, where I live, for -- well, it will be 3 years next month.  My position is called "Facility Attendant."  The local Library is owned by the city, but it's operated by the County government through an inter-governmental agreement.  My position, along with one other, is primarily to take care of three conference rooms in the lobby area of the Library that the Town operates.  I started at $9.91/hr -- I'm currently at $12.57.  :)

I was thinking this morning how there's a relatively huge gap between my position and my supervisor.  I e-mailed him, telling him I thought that he should create a part-time supervisory position between him and my current position, which would allow someone younger (I don't know, such as myself) to gain some management experience.

He seemed to like the idea.  I'm hoping I can get it to work out.  :)  I suggested making the position equivalent to 6 pay grades higher than my current one -- base pay $16.13.  :D

Just wait till your boss reads this thread... ;)

I know so many people that just sit on the net while the boss does work (me & the 2 secretaries I work with).

I wonder how much is lost...isn't it something like $36 billion a year or something?

my boss plays on the net while I work, not the other way around.

I suggested my boss promote me to a supervisor postion and he kind of laughed at me.

I disagree. Everything he's said so far has been perfectly legal. As far as I know, it's quite legal to ask your boss to create a new job position for you to be promoted to. It's also just as legal for the boss to actually create said position and actually promote you there.

Wasting time on the job, being paid to post on forums.

How hard can it be to take care of a few rooms? I've taken care of a game room at an arcade and it was pretty boring. I can hardly blame him for finding something to do while there's nothing to do, even if it's not work related. If his boss doesn't complain about his work (or, in fact, quite the contrary... is inclined to promote him), then I think he's doing a fine job.

...even if it's not necessarily the most ethical thing to do...

Yeah, you need to have a high-school diploma or GED, although I don't know why.

If you didn't get out of high school it was probably for a bad reason :X

I tried that for two friends who had graduated.  They didn't even get to the interview process.
