Title: FreeBSD firewalls - which?
Post by: nslay on June 23, 2005, 10:43 PM
I am reading chapter 24 in the handbook about firewalls and they present 3 different firewalls
IPF, IPFW and PF ... PF is supposedly OpenBSD's firewall imported to FreeBSD 5.x's base system and it supposed to be very flexible.

What about QoS services?  Dummynet or ALTQ?

Any opinions or remarks on any of them?  I just want to secure my system for workstation usage...

Without a doubt, PF + ALTQ.  I'm running it on my firewall, and it's a godsend, especially ALTQ.

Kick butt!  I was going to stick with PF anyways, since its conveniantly part of the base system...though, its always good to be assured
